Kunz group

The working group deals with material developments and electrode coatings for electrochemical reactors for various applications. To this end, processes for electrocatalytic coatings are being developed that can also be used for larger electrodes. Gas diffusion electrodes are currently being developed for the electrochemical treatment of water and for metal-air batteries. The work includes the selection of electrocatalytically active materials and their evaluation using electrochemical characterization methods such as half-cell measurements and cyclovoltametry. The evaluation is carried out in test cells under realistic operating conditions. In the field of classical process engineering, composite catalysts based on polymer carrier materials are developed and evaluated for organic syntheses. For this purpose, we develop, build and operate our own test facilities, which work at pressures of up to 100 bar and temperatures of up to 200°C. Material transport and kinetics are investigated for multiphase reactions.
